ACCEPTANCE BY FAMILY & FRIENDS
Brothers, in your Christian walk through this life please do not allow a fellow Christian or friend to rob you of the truth of your salvation in Jesus or Lord.
Follow along with me as we read our Lord Jesus' own experience with his own family and friends.
I will hold off any more comments until the end of these verses here in Luke chapter 4.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? 23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. 25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; 26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. 28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way,
Brothers, Jesus' family and friends that he had grown up with in the city of Nazareth were present in the Synagog when Jesus both read and taught them.
These people were religious or they would not have been present. But, when they heard Jesus' teaching they could not accept his words. They would not believe him.
Brothers, as you grow in God's Holy Word and mature as a child of God your own friends and family may not accept you.
Those of us who have grown in our Christian walk into maturity may not be able to affect those whom you have known all of your life.
Don't expect them to see you in this new light that you have stepped out into. Some may still be in darkness, but many will profess to be Christians. But, that does not mean that they will believe who you now claim to be.
Brothers, I say that you or I should not expect to be received by our friends & family. When Jesus himself was not received by his friends & family.
Jesus was pushed and shove out of the Synagog and our of Nazareth to the edge of a great hill which the city was built on.
They wished to throw him over the edge headlong. Yes they were going to try to kill him. Not that He had done anything bad, but rather they could not believe that he had out grown them in God's Holy Word.
They did believe that they were more religious than He was. But, as I have taught you before religion is man made it is not made by God.
But, brothers you and I should not expect to be treated better than Jesus was.
Stop for a moment and recall how that some of your own family and friends believe themselves to be more righteous than you claim to be. Even though they live in hypocricy.
I love my family and friends, but most do not accept me or my ministry, and they would never set under my teaching just as Jesus' family and friends would not hear Him.
Don't be discouraged by your own lack of acceptance by your friends and family. If Jesus was not accepted by his then why on earth would we expect to be treated any better that Jesus was.
Let me close by giving you a more clear example of my own experiences in this area.
Most all of my family and friends know of my ministry. But, of the more than 400,000 plus visitors such as your self. I do not have even one friend or family member who visits this site.
Brothers, do not be hurt by the actions of your own family or friends. For it is much easier for them to listen to a total stranger that it will be for them to ever hear your own testimony or teaching as you go about doing God's assignment which he has given to you.
So my brothers do not hesitate to witness or to teach strangers for they will be more apt to listen to you and to receive your teaching. God knows this about human beings for Jesus lived through this, and left this teaching here in the forth chapter of Luke as an example for us.
Walk joyfully through this life as we have Jesus as an example.
I love you my brothers in Christ Jesus;
