BEWARE THE PHARISEES

Brothers, throughout the New Testament, we see that Jesus was constantly being confronted, and questioned by a group of men whom Jesus called the Pharisees, and the Scribes.

The Pharisees and the Scribes were the appointed governors and politicians of Jesus' day. They were also lawyers for the most part.

They professed to be very religious men, and if you had asked them the reason for their gathering together with Jesus and his disciples they would say it was to watch over God's word.

But, we know that it was actually to both listen and watch for anything that they might use against him before both the priests, and the King in that day.

Now follow with me as Jesus tells us here in the book of Luke who they really were as God saw them. As you here Jesus describe who they were in God's eyes. Compare them to the elected politicians and lawyers of our day.

1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Here we are told that the words of the Pharisees are hypocrisy. They say one thing while doing another. Deceit is their life, and they are hypocrites always.

2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Brothers, Jesus tells us here that we must know who our politicians and lawmakers really are. He tells us here that they can say every vile word that they wish, but every truth will be revealed. Nothing will be hidden that shall not be known.

Again Jesus confirms that no matter the hypocrisy spoken by these deceitful men God will show you and I the truth. Therefore when we here them speaking we are to know the lies. The holy Spirit will show you their lies, and He will tell you all truth.

Jesus goes on to say whatsoever the evil plans that they make in darkness shall be heard by us in the light. God is light, and we who know Jesus live in that light, not in darkness which is evil. He will show us all things.

I love Jesus' next statement that even when they are in their closets (private offices), and they think that no one will hear their evil thoughts and plans. Jesus will shout the truth from the house tops for every Christian to know the truth.

4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Here Jesus calls us friends. He tells us not to be afraid of these liars and evil doers, not even if they devise to put you and I to death. We are to have no fear of them. He says that even if they kill our bodies they can do no more to us.

Jesus forewarns us that we are to fear God who after we are dead has the power to then cast into hell. He says again, we are to fear God not man.

Brothers, Jesus is teaching us that we are to know and recognize that these men can not, and will not speak the truth.

When you speak the truth about them, and their hypocrisy just know that they may seek to destroy you and even to kill you. But, after they kill your body they can do nothing else to us.

Here Jesus has taught us that we should have no expectations of truth coming from these liars. They seek to deceive the world with their lies.

But, we who know Jesus are to  know that the truth will not only be revealed, but that it will be shouted from the roof tops by us who know him, and the truth.

Nothing will be hidden from us. But, we as Christians are to listen to the holy Spirit whom Jesus sent to live inside each of us. He will teach us all things. Just ask and receive. God is truth, and his word is truth. He is light, and we are his children. He will show us all things. We are not to be deceived by these lawmakers of our day.

6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

God knows every hair on our head. Therefore we are to have no fear. He tells us that whosoever shall confess him before men, that Jesus will confess him before the angels of God.

We belong to him and he will always show us the truth, and we are to confess both Jesus and the truth before all men which includes speaking the truth of who these hypocrites really are. They are liars one and all. They are incapable of telling the truth.

9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God

If you or I deny Jesus and God the father before these evil men by not speaking the truth of who they really are and what they are really doing and saying. Then we are in grave danger of being denied when we stand before God.

We must recognize all truth as God's very own holy Spirit will both show and tell those of us who know Jesus as our Lord and Savour.

10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

When you are brought before either the synagogues or courts of this day we are to give no thought before hand what we will say. We are promised here that God will tell us what we are to say when that hour comes.

Brothers, we are required of God to stand boldly before men for one day soon we shall stand before Jesus and give an account of what we did not do that he had required of us.

We are to recognize the hypocrites of this day both in our government and in our sanctuaries for these hypocrites never cease to speak lies.

God bless you my brothers. Always seek the truth from God and he will never fail you.
