FOLLOW HIMLuke 9:57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.Luke 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Brothers, here a man said Lord, I will follow you wherever you go. Jesus said to the man, Foxes have holes and Birds have nests, but the Son of man has no where to lay his head.
Think about what Jesus told the man. Jesus told him plainly that he had no where on this earth to call home. He had no house, no bed, and no where to even lay his head. Jesus was asking the man, if his would give up those things to follow Him. The Bible does not tell us whether or not the man went with Jesus, but if the man choose to follow Jesus then he knew the price that he would pay to follow Him.
Luke 9:59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Luke 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
Here in verses 59-60 when Jesus said to a man, Follow me. The man said to Jesus, 'first let me go and bury my father.' Then Jesus said to the man, 'Let the dead bury the dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.'
Do you see here the sacrifice that Jesus requires of us. We are to be about doing God's work, even if it means you will not be there, to bury your own earthly father.
Luke 9:61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Yet another man said, Lord, I will follow you, but let me first go and say good bye to my family. Here Jesus said once again plainly, No man, having accepted the assignment that I have gave him, who continues to look back on what he has given up, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Brothers, Jesus requires us to labor in his service, without regret, without looking back, without worrying about his family, and without even a place to call home. In other words we are to put Him first in our life, just as Jesus put us first in his on life here on this earth.
There is to be nothing placed above your service to Him. We owe him so much more that we can ever repay. We will live forever and never know death because of what He has done for us. Please put nothing above your love and service unto the Lord our God.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Think about the importance that Jesus and God the Father put on our obedience.
Pray for more laborers to be put into service with you and your brothers in Christ Jesus. Help to bring the lost into the Kingdom of God.
God Bless you my brothers,
