Luke 10:1 After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Brothers, we are to be a witness of Jesus Christ into every city and place on this earth. He tells us here that we are to pray every day that the Lord would send labourers to gather his harvest. Notice the small h in his in the last sentence of verse 2 above, that it is referring to us. For we are the labourers who are to gather the harvest for Jesus and God the Father.
Have you ever seen a field or garden which was not gathered when the crop was ready with its fruit. In a matter of days the crop rotted, and turned to decay and is no longer useful for it's intended use. This is true of those lost souls on this earth whom God is quickening their spirit unto receiving the truth of His word, and you are not laboring in the field to gather this soul into the harvest that God has assigned to you and I. Brothers we all have an assignment, and one day we will answer to the Lord our God, as to why we did not go about doing that assignment. We have a task to complete.
Luke 10:3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
Luke 10:4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
Luke 10:5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
Luke 10:6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
Brothers, we are indeed lambs, but fear not the wolves, for God has sent us into this place to bring in the lost souls whom He has made ready to hear the truth of, God's Holy Word. Jesus tells us here that before we enter a house or city, that we are to first say, peace be to this house, and if the Son of peace be there your peace shall know rest in that house, and if not you will know that also.
Luke 10:9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Luke 10:10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
Luke 10:11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Luke 10:12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
Luke 10:16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
Jesus says here that if you enter a city and they do not receive you then go on your way and shake the dust of that place from you. Jesus says in verse 16 he that hears you hears me, and he that despises you despises me and Him that sent me. Do you see here that we are the vessel, but it is God's Holy Spirit inside us along with His Word that does the work.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
Luke 10:18 And he said unto them,I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Brothers, Jesus himself says here that He has given us power to tread on serpents, scorpions, and yes also over the power of the devil, and nothing shall by any means hurt you and I. Jesus then cautions us to not rejoice in that power and liberty that He has given us, but rather rejoice, because our names are written in heaven. Praise God!
God Bless you my brothers,
