GROAN AND WEEP
John 11:33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.
John 11:34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
John 11:35 Jesus wept.
Brothers, Jesus did not groan in the spirit, nor did he weep for Lazarus, but rather he groaned and wept for their like of faith in God who had sent him.
John 11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
They still thought that Jesus groaned and wept because of His great love for Lazarus. But, his groaning and weeping was because of their unbelief. Jesus did indeed love Lazarus greatly and had called him a friend, but He cried for their unbelief not for Lazarus.
John 11:37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
They said among themselves, this man has done great things before could not he have caused this man not to die. Some, if not most, had seen Jesus perform great miracles of healing and was saying here, "why did Jesus not heal him so that he would not have died".
John 11:38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
John 11:39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
Do you see that no one here believed that Jesus could raise Lazarus from the dead after four days.
John 11:40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
Jesus said to Mary, "didn't I say to you, that, if you would believe, you would see the glory of God".
John 11:41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
John 11:42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
Brothers, Jesus prayed to God the Father, I know that you always hear and answer me, thank you that you always do, but, because of the people which stand here I said this that they may believe that you have sent me.
Do you see that Jesus only had to speak the word and God's Holy Spirit which dwelt inside Jesus, would perform that word. The same Spirit of God who was always present with Jesus is always present with you and I. Praise God!
John 11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice,
Lazarus, come forth.
John 11:44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin.
Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
John 11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
We are told here that many believed on Jesus when they saw Lazarus come walking our of his tomb now alive again, because Jesus had said, 'Lazarus come forth'.
Brothers, we are to have the love for each other that Jesus had for both Lazarus and those who did not believe. We are to love our brothers and the lost enough to groan in the spirit and too weep for both of them. When the lost sees us having love for our brothers in Christ, then they may believe upon the Holy name of Jesus as their Lord and savour. We are commanded to love one another just as we love the Lord our God.
John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
John 17:18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
John 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
John 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
John 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Brothers, please go about working the fields with your brothers in love. There is only today.
God Bless you my brothers in Christ Jesus,
