Chapter 1

9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Brothers, Paul was telling his own son Titus here as he was leaving him in Crete to hold fast to the truth as he had been taught. That he was both to choose the elders for the Church in Crete and also to exhort (speak strongly too) them, and to also convince those who were not walking in the gospel truth to repent and turn back to the Lord Jesus' teaching.

10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

:The circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Brothers just as the Jews of Jesus' days were circumcised, we who are alive in this day are the circumcised made without hands by the circumcision of Christ Jesus.

11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

Paul tells Titus and us here that we are to stop those of this day who subvert whole houses by teaching the doctrine of men and not the word of God.

12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

A prophet from Crete said of his own people that they are liars always, that they were evil beasts.

Brothers these same worldly walking liars are here on earth in this day.

13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

We are to rebuke these people sharply, that hey may come back to be of sound faith and not be deceived by the liars of this day.

14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

Brothers, Paul tells his son Titus here that even their mind and conscience is defiled. They have believed the commandments taught by lying men who claim to preach the word of God, but do not. Rather they preach a lie for money (filthy lucre's) sake. These are the deceivers of our day.

16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

These people are deceiving so many people in this day. They profess from their mouths that they know God and that they love Him. When by their works they deny Him. They are abominable and disobedient, and they do no good work for God.

Brothers, please recognize these deceivers and rebuke them when you are shown who they are. Turn away from these people and if they do not repent then have no part with them.

Pray for these liars to have their eyes opened by the Holy Spirit.
God bless you my brothers who both walk and work in God's holy word.
