HYPOCRISY, Message #3
Matthew 6:1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Alms is defined in the new testament as our Christian duty to aid the state of the poor and the needy. Note what Jesus said to us here in Matthew 6:1. We are not to help the poor and needy openly before men, but rather help them in secret before God.
He tells us that God will not reward you, if you do not do your alms in secret. We are being as the hypocrites when we give our alms before men. We are to act Christianly, not worldy in our giving.
The world today loves for men to know the gifts that they give, so that they may receive accolades from men for their goodness, shown to the poor and the needy. Think back on those that the News Media and Hollywood point out to us each week as being great givers.
A regard to the state of the poor and needy is enjoined as a Christian duty ( Luke 3:11 ; 6:30 ; Matthew 6:1 ; Acts 9:36 ; Acts 10:2 Acts 10:4 ) Please read these scriptures.
Romans 2:3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
When we, as Christians, walk in hypocrisy as the world walks, do not think that God will not judge us. He will.
1 John 2:9
He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
If you hate your brother, while saying you walk in the light of Jesus Christ and God the Father, you are in darkness even now and you are a hypocrite in God's eyes.
2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away
If a man act godly, but deny's the power of God, we must turn away from his teachings.
If this man deny's the deity of Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit of God, or the entire truth of God's Holy Word, turn away from this man for he is a hypocrite, and continues in darkness.
1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
We who have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savour are under the spirit and are commanded to do these:
1. Love the Lord thy god with all of thy heart.
2. Love the Lord thy god with all of thy soul.
3. Love the Lord thy god with all of thy mind.
4. Love the Lord thy god with all of thy strength.
5. Love thy neighbor as thy self. (Mark 12:31)
6. Love your brothers in Christ Jesus.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Matthew 22:37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Matthew 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Galatians 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
We are not to think ourselves to be more than we are. By doing so we are as the hypocrites. Remember brothers, we are to always look at our selves first, confess our sins to God, and then and only then should we try to help our brothers in Christ to recognize their sins. We are to always do this in love. Jesus commanded this of us and God requires it of us.
God Bless you my brothers,
