FEED MY SHEEP

John chapter 21:17-25

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Brothers, this being the third time in the above three verses that Jesus had asked Simon Peter if he loved him. Each time Peter had answered the same way. This had grieved Peter this third time that Jesus had asked him the same question. Jesus said each time, feed my sheep.

Jesus was making a point here to not only Peter but to all of his disciples and us as well and that is that if we love Him we should be feeding His sheep.

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When tho wast young thou girdest thyself, and walked whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

Brothers here Jesus tells Simon Peter that when he was young Peter would rise early in the morning and walk where ever he pleased, but when Peter is old he will stretch forth his hands and another will dress him and will carry him where he wishes and Peter will have no say in where he goes.

Do you see here that Jesus is making the point that while you have the say of what you will do each day then you should be going about doing the Lords business of feeding His sheep. For when you get old and unable to dress your self or to choose where it is that you will go you will be unable to feed Jesus' sheep.

19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

Jesus says to Peter here that he will glorify God by feeding His sheep. Peter is not to waste the short time that he has to glorify God. He is to be doing the work while he can.

20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

Brothers please see here that Peter wanted to know from Jesus if the other disciple would have to do the same as Peter was being told to do.

22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

Jesus said to Peter, that if it was Jesus' will that the other diciple was still alive and doing His work when Jesus returned. What business of that was it to Peter.

Peter wanted to make sure that the other disciple was going to have to do the same thing as Peter was.

Jesus said that what He would ask of another of his children to do for Him was none of Peter's business. In other words you have been given an assignment and you are to do what God has told you to do and your brother in Christ may not be told to do the same thing. Do your assignment and don't judge your brother because he does something different.

Jesus asked Peter what business was it of his what another disciple was doing. In other words Jesus told Peter to mind his own business and to go about doing what he had been told to do.

23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

Jesus' word to Peter here had been miss quoted. Jesus had not said that the other disciple would be alive at His returning but rather it was not any of Peters business if he would be alive when Jesus returned.

24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Brothers please go about feeding Jesus' sheep while you are still able to physically do the work that He has given you to do.

We are to do our work here on earth while we are able. Don't worry about what someone else is doing. Stay focused on completing your work.

God bless you my brothers in Christ Jesus.
