1Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
1Peter 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
1Peter 5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
1Peter 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Brothers, here Peter is telling us to feed the flock of God which is among you. There are so many young (fairly new) and immature (those who have been born again, but have not grown as you have), Christians in this world today. They need a teacher who is both hungry for the truth of God's Word and mature, willing to both continue in learning and to teach others who are in need of the word of God as you were and are. Willingly teach, not by force, but of a ready mind.
Not as lords over God's flock, but rather by being an example by both conversation and by the way that you live your Christian life. Peter tells us in verse 4 that when Jesus shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that will never fade away. We are told in God's Word that when Jesus shall appear and we are caught up to meet him in the air, that He will bring our rewards with him.
1Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
1Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Peter, speaking to the younger Christians here, tells us that you are to submit yourselves to an elder brother or sister who is mature in God's Word. He says that we are to be humble of heart and mind, for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. We are not to think more highly of ourselves that we ought to. For it is not our minds who have gained this knowledge of God's Holy Word, but rather it is by God's grace and by His Holy Spirit which dwells inside us who has given us God's wisdom and understanding. We only prayed for, and received His knowledge. Verse 6 tells us to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. It is He who will exalt you in due time.
1Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Brothers, note here what Peter says in verse 7 - 8, read and reread these two verses. We are to cast ALL of our cares upon God, for He cares for you. Be sober (watching for Jesus' appearing), because the devil walks about seeking whom he may devour. Notice here that the devil wishes to still God's word from you. He attempts to do this in many ways. His favorite way is to come at you with self condemnation telling you that your are not saved, because of all of the sin that you committed. This is a lie. Because, as far as God is considered you are now His child. He forgave you of your sins because you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savour, and He has forgotten all of those former sins. Do you see that when God forgave you He also forgot ALL of your sins. Self condemnation is a big lie that the devil uses to try to get you to look back at who you were instead of who you have become, because that Jesus died for you and lives now setting at the right hand of God the Father.
Also look at verse 8 where Peter tells us that the devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking who he may devour. AS a roaring LION, is not a roaring lion. This lion has not teeth, nor claws, he is a liar. trying to convience you that you are not saved. He will also use other people to bring self condemnation to you. Do not accept anyone or any thing that makes you question your salvation. Not family, not friends, not anyone. The devil is a liar and the father of all lies. Jesus went to hell for you and He took the keys to death and hell from him. Where you are concerned he has no power, unless you give it to him. Se we are told to stand fast, be watchful, and grow in God's Holy Word.
1Peter 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
1Peter 5:11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
We are to resist stedfastly in faith. God by grace through faith has delivered you through all of the trials of this world. He has called us unto eternal glory by Christ Jesus. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. We have been given that dominion over this world. It is ours now. and forever and ever. AMEN! (Amen means in Greek to receive).
God Bless you my brothers,
