Brothers, all to often we born again believers walk in the flesh rather than in the Spirit as Jesus taught, and told us to do.
Let me start this message by saying that years ago I heard preachers preach on how that we should walk in the spirit. But, I never really understood how that when we are created in flesh and blood that we did not have to live in the flesh. I knew that when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior that God sent his Holy Spirit to live inside me, and that Jesus told us also that he would abide in us, and we would abide in him.
Please note that when I refer to Gods Holy Spirit that Spirit is capitalized. When I refer to our own spirit that spirit is not capitalized because it is not God's Spirit that I am speaking of.
Our fleshly bodies contain a mind, a heart, and many other vital organs. We are made up of these body parts in order that we may do every task that our bodies have been  designed by God to do. Since Adams fall from God man was made sinful. You and I can not will ourselves out of sin. We can however accept Jesus who died for our sins, and then and only then be forgiven for our sins.
As we live our lives we will also commit sin. Be it by our words, our acts, our thoughts, and our willful neglect to do what we know that we should do. There are many more ways in which we sin each day. I remember seeing a bumper sticker once that said 'I AM NOT PERFECT, I AM FORGIVEN'! This is a very true statement in that we as Christians can not live a perfect life because we were born into sin. It was necessary for Jesus to come, and to die for our sins because God saw that he was the only one who could live a perfect life. He came, and died for us so that we would not have to die in our sins.
I will show you in God's Holy Word a few verses of scripture which the apostil Paul is teaching to the Galatians how that they should not walk in the flesh, but rather they should be walking, and living in the Spirit.
Galatians 1:16 KJV This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
1:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Here Paul tells us that if we walk in the Spirit we can't fulfill the lusts of our flesh. Our flesh is actually at war with the Spirit. Do you see in verse 17 above that the Spirit and our flesh can not work in unison.
The Spirit is working against the flesh, and the flesh is working against the Spirit. He says that you can not do what the flesh would have you do except it be contrary to the Spirit.
These two will never agree because the flesh is sin, and the Spirit is God, and God can have no place with sin.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Flesh lives in sin, and here we are told how sin will manifest itself by bringing to the surface some are all of things listed below:
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
All of these things are sin in God's eyes. Do you remember when Jesus said of the Ten Commandments of Moses day that if you were guilty of one of these sins then you were guilty of all. But, because of Jesus these sinful acts are forgiven us by God.
This forgiveness is not a license to commit these sins, God forbid, but it should be the reason that we try to walk and live Christ like every day. When we fail and we will fail, we are to repent, and God is faithful to forgive us. But, when we continue to fail in our Christ like walk without repenting to God that we have failed and or sorry for that failure then we have fallen into our lost ways once again.
Paul tells us here that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. He is speaking of those who make a consious decision to keep doing these sinful, fleshly acts without the Spirits guidance into a Godly walk.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Those of us who are saved have crucified the flesh and it's sin. We do however crucify our flesh every day by walking in the Spirit.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
These sinful acts by our flesh is contrary to the Spirit of God.
In conclusion God's very own Holy Spirit has come to abide in our spirits (note the small s in spirits), and he will give us the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to walk in his Spirit. Ask God to show you every day what to say, what to do, what to be as you go through your day. His small quiet voice will speak truth to you when you do wrong.
This truth of walking in the Spirit will not stay with you by reading it one time. By praying for God's Spirit to teach you every day, and in every way you will slowly begin to learn to wait on God. If you feel pressure to do or say something then that is from your fleshly mind, and body. It is not from the Spirit of God who is to be your guide through this life.
Learn to wait on God, and he will show you how to complete every task that is before you. Over time you will learn how to live and walk Christ like.
But, know that you will not do this at first, and that you will not perfect this act by doing this one day. You will however grow in your spirit and will hear what the Spirit is telling you to do and say day by day over time.
God Bless you my brothers and my soon to be brothers.
