THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

THE BODY OF CHRIST & THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
If we are to cross to the other side we must be as one.

1 Corinthians 12  (KJV)

Brothers please allow me to show you the differing gifts of the Holy Spirit. I say different because God's Holy Word teaches us here that there are different gifts, and that the Holy Spirit gives different gifts to different individuals who make up the Body of Christ. He chooses which gift that you are given, you do not get to choose, but rather it is He who gives the gift.

Every born again believer in Jesus has been given a gift. Some have more than one gift. Some believers do not know what their gift is because they have never sought God's wisdom in this area, and asked that the Holy Spirit would both reveal, and teach them how to use their gift.
12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

God does not want you uninformed. He wants you to both know what your gifts are, and to use that gift or gifts that you have been given.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

He tells us that we know that we were once lost, and walked in the ways of this evil world in our own sins

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

He says here that no man can call Jesus accursed by using His name in vain as does the lost world in their un belief.

He also says that no man can say that Jesus is Lord unless the Holy Spirit has come upon them with power and conviction. Only a born again believer knows that Jesus is their Lord.

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

Gods Holy Word tells us here that their are distinctive spiritual gifts, special abilities given by the grace, and extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit, but it is the same Spirit who grants these gifts to a child of God.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

There are different distinctive ministries, and service, but it is the same Lord who is served by these gifts.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

He tells us here that there are distinctive ways to accomplish things, but it is the same God who produces all things in all believers. They are to inspire, energize, and empower the believer in their service to God the Father, and our Lord Jesus.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

Each believer is given the manifestation of the Spirit to illuminate, by the enabling of the Holy Spirit for the common good. By your walking in your gift you shall work Gods will in your life, and in your service to Him.

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

The word of wisdom is the power to speak the message of wisdom. Wisdom comes from God, and it is His Spirit inside you who will reveal that wisdom that you are to speak. Another one of His children are given the word of knowledge by the Spirit. This person is given the power to express Gods Holy Word. Both knowledge, and understanding is revealed by the Spirit.

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

Both faith and healing are gifts of the same Spirit. Wonder working faith is given by the Spirit, and extraordinary gift of healing is given by the same Spirit to some.

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

The working of miracles is a gift to some, and the prophecy gift is the ability to speak a new message from God to the people of faith.
The discerning of spirits is the ability to distinguish sound godly doctrine from the deceptive doctrine of man made religions and cults.
The gift of divers kinds of tongues. These are unknown tongues. The words spoken are unknown to the speaker. Let me explain. If you speak the language of Hebrew, and you have never been taught to speak the Hebrew language then that language is unknown to you. It is not a language that does not exist. It is just a language that you do not know. Please understand that God know everything, and His very own Holy Spirit is speaking this language through you.
Some are given the ability the ability to interpret unknown tongues.

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Brothers, all of these gifts are the gift of the Holy Spirit, and he gives to those that He chooses. It is not your choice, but rather the Holy Spirit of Gods choice.

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

Brothers we are the Body of Christ. We are made up of many members, but we may have different gifts. This does not mean that because one person has a different gift from you that you are not to have anything to do with that person. On the contrary we are to love, and fellowship with that person because God has commanded that we do. The body is made up of many members, but one body of Christ Jesus our Lord.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

For by one Holy Spirit we were all baptized into one body, spiritually transformed, united together whether Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Holy Spirit since the same Holy Spirit fills each life.
(Praise God we are one)!!

14 For the body is not one member, but many.

The human body does not consist of one part, but of many parts which are made made up of both limbs and organs to serve the physical body. The same is true of the many members who make up the body of Christ. We all serve in different ways, but all are vital to Christ's service to humanity.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

Do you see that it takes all of us using our differing gifts to serve God here on this earth.

18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

Our gifts are given us as it pleased God. Don't try to do something in the body of Christ that God did not ordain you to do. Use the gift from God that the Holy Spirit has given you. Then and only then will you be serving God as he intended that you would. Be filled with joy and peace as you walk in the service that God intended for you.

19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?

20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

If you are the hand then be the hand! If you are the eye then be the eye! Don't try to be the tongue when you are the foot!

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

There is to be no division in the body. No discord or lack of fellowship, but that the parts may have the same concern for one another. Love each other, and fellowship one with another. Pleas remember that we are all one body.

26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

Be the member of Christ's body that He has made you to be. Do the work using the gift that He has given you. Pray for God to reveal your gift to you if you have not known what that gift is. But, from this time forward use your gift, and do not war with the other members of the body of Christ just because you have a different gift.

Do you know that if your legs and arms say that because I am not the eyes and the ears I will not be a member of this body. They your body will be unable to move, and when this happens you will cease to do what your body was designed to do.

It is the same if you refuse to use your God given gifts in His service. The body of Christ can never be what it is suppose to be if you refuse to walk in your gifts. Recognize your gift, and use it in service to God. Remember to fellowship with your other members for this is what God the Father and Jesus expects from each of us.

God Bless you my brothers,

John Hipp
