TO THE CHURCH AT EPHESUS
JESUS SPEAKS TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES
(I will cover each Church in a separate message.)
Brothers, Jesus spoke to the seven churches of his day. These were Churches that had believed upon his name, and had began their ministry of teaching the truth of the gospel. But, many had gone their own way, and most had written their own doctrine.
I will attempt to show you here what Jesus had found to be wrong with the Church's, and also what he found to be right in the Church's in those cases where he found right.
As you are being taught here the right and the wrong that Jesus found with the Churches of his day. Please know that Jesus is also teaching the various Churches of this day in which we now live.
Brothers, I have told you many times that the Bible tells us that we are the Church.
So when you consider the many denominations of our day do not allow yourself only to look at the institutional Church, but you are also to look inwardly at yourself for you are also the Church individually that Jesus is speaking too here.
THE CHURCH AT EPHESUS
1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Look at what Jesus says here in the second verse of the second chapter of Revelation. He tells the Church of Ephesus that He knows their works, and he knows their labor and their patience. Do you see that Jesus sees their work. He sees their labor. He sees their patience. These three things are important to Jesus when he looks not only at the sanctuary in which we worship, but He also looks into our hearts as individuals. Our work, our labor, and our patience are very important to both Jesus and the Father.
He says that he knows that this church can not bear evil. He says that this church has tried those who say that they have been sent by God, and have found them to be liars.
Brothers, we should not tolerate evil. Our teacher who is the Holy Spirit of God, will show us the liars of this day just as Jesus did here to the Church at Ephesus.
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Brothers we are to withstand to bear all resistance to our daily walk with Jesus. Jesus requires us to be patient, and to labor for His name's sake. We must not faint, but rather to continue in our walk, and in the work that he gives you to do for Him.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Jesus tells the Church at Ephesus that he has found that they have left their first love. They were going through the motions of their Christian walk, but their heart was not in it because they had left their first love. The love of God must be your first love. God is to be first in our lives. Our love for others are to be second, and the love for ourselves are third. In other words We must love God and others before our self. Here Jesus tells the Church that they have left their first love which must be God.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Brothers, Jesus tells this Church and He is telling each of us to do the first works. To love, and to put God first or else He will come unto us quickly, and remove your candlestick out of his place unless we repent. He says to remember from where you are fallen or else. Do you see here that our denominational Churches of this day must repent and return to the love of God or else their light will be removed.
Some have already lost their way and their light is gone. You know who these are and how very far that they have fallen because God is no longer their first love. They are following the world. They adopt what another fallen Church has done down the road, and they blindly follow after them. God is no longer first in their lives.
This also applies to some of us as individual members of the body of Christ. We to must remember from where we have fallen by not putting God first in our lives.
Brothers, Jesus tells us here that not only the institutional Church must repent, and turn back to God, but that we as the children of God must also turn back, least He will come quickly upon us just as he will upon the Churches of this day. Unless you repent you are in danger of loosing your light.
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
The Nicolaitans sought riches before everything else. God says that he hated their deeds. Not that he hated them far he loved the lost of that world just as he does the lost of this present day.
Jesus tells us here that he hates the deeds of those who seek after riches before that they love, and follow after their God. Remember form the above verse that God will be first in your life or else He will remove not only himself from you, but also the angel that he has charged to watch over your denominational Church, and the ones who watch over you.
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
If this message that Jesus sent to this Church applies to you then please repent, overcome, and return to your first love. Please hear what the Spirit is saying to you.
God Bless you my brothers,
