TO THE CHURCH AT SARDIS
1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Brothers, Jesus told the church at Sardis that many of that Church were spiritually dead. Even though they physically continued to have life within their bodies. Once again Jesus said that he knew their works. Do you see here that Jesus knows our works as children of God. He knows those who are both spiritually dead and those who are in danger of dying.
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Jesus says that they must me watchful of their spiritual life, and that they must strengthen and grow that part of their spiritual life which is dying.
3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
He tells them that they must repent, (repent means to be sorry and to turn away from that thing which is destroying their spiritual life). He tells them that they must hold on to that which they have heard and received when they walked in the light of God.
Jesus says here to the Church at Sardis that they must repent, and begin watching for His soon appearing, and if they are not watching for Him that he will come upon them when they least expect Him to appear, and that they will not know what hour He shall come for His Church.
Brothers there are many of our brothers and sisters who are so busy with the worlds pleasures that they are not watching for Jesus' appearing in this day in which we live. Stop and think about your own life to assure yourself that you are not one of those who are dying spiritually. If you find that you are not working and watching for Him, then REPENT and turn back to that thing that you have lost. God and Jesus are to be your first love. Make that so in your own life while you still can.
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
Jesus says that there are a few even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments, (their spirit.) He says that those whose spirit is not defiled shall walk with Jesus for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Wow! Do you see that unless they or you overcome this world and their evil ways your name is in danger of being blotted out of the book of life. Jesus says here in verse five that He himself will blot out those names who do not overcome and repent of their evil ways.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
My brothers you are to be diligent in going about doing His work in these last days in which we now live. As I have told you before we must be watchful of His appearing. We are the blessed generation which shall be alive and caught up to meet Jesus in the air.
Luke 21 verse 36 says, WATCH, and pray always that we be accounted worthy to escape all of these things which shall come to pass, and stand before the Son of man.
It is so very late my friends.
Please make bible study your daily bread. Don't let a day go by that you are not seeking His truth in His Holy word.
God bless you my brothers,
