TO THE CHURCH AT THYATIRA
18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
Jesus is telling this church at Thyatira about their works, and charity, and service, and faith, and their patience. He also says that their present works are even more than their first works. Even so He has a few things against them.
20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
Here Jesus is very serious that this church should no longer allow Jezebel to teach and seduce His servants. He says that he has given Jezebel the deceiver time to repent, and that she has not repented.
Brothers, Jezebel here is those teachers and preachers of the gospel who teach a false doctrine. A man made doctrine not of God.
Jesus says that those who commit fornication with her, (those who tolerate her and set under her false teaching) will be cast into great tribulation.
In other words these Christians will be left behind at the catching away of the Church, and will endure all of the plagues of the seven year great tribulation period.
Brothers, this teaching is for us the Church of our day. We must grow accustomed to applying not only the teaching by Jesus here to the seven Churches of that day, but also apply this teaching to ourselves. We must look inward. We must remove ourselves from those teachers of today who teach doctrine made my man, and not given by God in His Holy Word.
23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Jesus says that he will cause those who follow after her to know death. He says that he will give to every one according to your works.
Do you see here that Jesus knows your good works, and also your evil works. His people will receive what is due them be it good or bad.
24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. 26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
Jesus promises those of the Church in Thyatira that have not accepted the false doctrine of Jezebel, and the depths of Satan, that He will not put on them any other burden.
He goes on to say that they should hold fast to the gospel truth until Jesus comes for us.
Jesus says that we are to overcome, and keep His works unto the end. He will then give us power over the nations to rain with him here on earth for one thousand years, and to rule with a rod of iron.
28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
We are to stand fast against wrong doctrine, and overcome the false teachings of this day, just like the Church at Thyatira was being told to do here in this the forth letter that Jesus sent to the seven churches.
God Bless you my brothers in Christ Jesus.
