TRUTH AND LOVE
2John 1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
2John 1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Brothers, the Apostle John tells us here in verses 2&3 that truth (which is God's word) dwells inside us and will be with us forever. Also grace, mercy, and peace is from our Lord Jesus and that this comes from truth and love and that that grace, mercy, and peace is ours. Do you see that we have been given truth and love from Jesus through God's Holy Word. His word is truth and His word is given in love, because He first loved us before we loved him.
Now that we know God, through the teaching of Jesus, and by his birth, death, and resurrection, are we God's children. Nothing comes from God except by His truth (the Word of God) and His great love for us.
2John 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
Just as John rejoiced greatly when he found the children of God walking in truth as they were commanded by the Father to do. So too is God rejoicing, and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savour rejoicing, when they find us his children, walking in the truth of His Word. God has commanded us through His Son Jesus, to always be found walking in his truth (Word) and his love. This is a commandment that we walk in love of one another with our brothers who lift up Jesus as Lord and Savour.
2John 1:5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
2John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
Once again here in verses 5&6 we are told that from the beginning we have been commanded to walk in truth and love. He says that this is not a new commandment, but rather that we have had this commandment from the very beginning.
2John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
2John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
2John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
2John 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
2John 1:11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
John tells all of us here very plainly that there are deceivers among us who teach not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, vs 7. He says that those who do not teach Jesus, having come from God the Father in the flesh that they are deceivers and antichrists, (Note here that they are antichrists, not the antichrist), because they deny Jesus as the Christ.
In verse 8 John says for us to look to ourselves to keep those things that we have wrought (obtained). What does this mean? It means that His word and his truth lives inside us, and that we are to look inwardly at God's Word and to keep His truth so that we receive a full reward and shall not be deceived by those who are antichrist.
If we abide in this doctrine of Christ that we have known and received, then we have God inside us. But, those who do not abide in the doctrine of truth and love he it is who has not God dwelling inside him, for we are told many times through out the New Testament that if we do not know Jesus as the only living Son of God, then we do not know God.
John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
John tells us here that God says we are not to invite these deceivers (antichrists) into our house, (here our house refers to our hearts and minds) because this is where God lives inside us, for our bodies are his temple, (His dwelling place).
Brothers, walk in truth and love every day until His soon appearing.
God Bless you my brothers,
