Brothers, the following five scriptures, as was the previous lesson, show us the importance that we sometimes put on things. We are taught here by Jesus, that these things mean nothing to our spiritual growth, nor should it mean anything to our daily walk with Jesus.
Luke 10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Jesus and his disciples had entered into a woman named Martha's house. As Martha went about preparing food and serving Jesus and His disciples, her sister Mary had stopped helping Martha and sat at Jesus' feet to hear his word.
Brothers, Jesus was teaching, and Mary desired to hear and to hang on to His every word as he spoke. Martha came and complained to
Jesus that her sister Mary had left her to serve alone.
She said this to Jesus, "Lord do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone"? Martha said to Jesus, 'tell her to help me, I need her help to do this job'!
Jesus said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are careful (worrying), and troubled about many things. But, you need one thing, and Mary has chosen that good part, and I shall not take her away from my word.
Jesus is telling Martha here to stop worrying about things which does not strengthen, and nourish, her very soul. The things that Martha is troubled and worried about is nothing to her. But, if she would only do what Mary is doing, by setting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His Holy Word then all the worrying and trouble would pass from her weary mind.
Brothers, how many of us allow worry to come into our lives and rob us of our time that should be spent with Jesus and God's Holy Word?
We give our time to some task that we ourselves have sat in front of us. We then allow the task to bring worry and troubling unto us. Our time that we should spend in God's word is then lost to the task, and we have then robbed ourselves of that peace, joy, love, and mercy which Mary was allowing to fill her very soul, as she sat at the feet of Jesus. On the other hand Martha's soul was not being fed because of her worry.
Do you see that we are to make the time, and take the time to spend in God's Word. He will not stop you from worrying about a task as Martha was doing here. He will allow you to go through this life not receiving all that he has for you. He will not, on the other hand, require you to leave his teaching and his word and go about a task that he has not given you.
Brothers, we are given free will to choose how and what we do each and every day of our lives. Please choose to spend time in God's Holy Word, By doing this you will turn from the worry's of your life and know the peace and love of our Lord Jesus and God the Father.
Walk in this peace and love which comes from spending time with Jesus. Praise God!
God Bless you my brothers,
