A TIME IN THE SOUTH
'DARK CLOUDS ROLL'
This story is told by John Hipp the namesake, and great grandson of the John Hipp of this story. It covers a period of time in the late 1800’s. When southerner’s in the United States were coming out from under a very dark time in the post Civil War South.
Men who were now being subjected to the carpetbaggers, and scalawags who now went about imposing the new Federal laws upon all of the South.
Men with families struggled just to put food on the table. While other men were very angry, and felt that they were owed much from those who invaded their homes, and their homeland. These people went about robbing the above mentioned revivalists of the North as well as those southerners who had sided with the post war federalists.
The John Hipp of this story was born in 1860 in Cass County, Georgia. He was born to a father who had suffered great loss to the war. His father, was a very hard task master on his son John Hipp growing up in poverty, as was the case of the majority of the people in the south.
His life is told over a period of time from 1860 through 1892. He worked in the gold mines of North Georgia in, and around Dahlonega in 1880.
In these Gold Camps a young man of twenty who was looking for trouble could certainly find it.
If you had been taught to use a pistol, and a rifle expertly, as John had been taught by his friend, and neighbor Bob Patton. A former miner turned saloon peace keeper two decades earlier in these same ruff gold camps, and towns. Then you were probably two steps ahead of everyone else who looked for trouble in these camps.
The trouble that John Hipp found in North Georgia would follow him into his new home in North Alabama, and beyond.
He would find the love that he had never known there on the mountains of Alabama. He would be given the chance of a life time by a great man of means. But, could this new found love, and prosperity last, or was his past going to catch up to both he, and his new family.
Could John find forgiveness for a terrible crime which he had committed. Was the burden of this crime going to weight him down, and rob him of his new found life.
It is a great burden indeed to carry a guilt like this through life.
This book is not about the Civil-War, but attempts to show the lives of some of those who survived the war. The life of one such man is shown here within these pages.
This book is available to all of my HVM friends around the world.
I have told the story of a man who struggled with finding a place to call home,
and a means of making a living in the post-Civil War south.
It is a also a story of a man seeking forgiveness.
I pray that this book will witness to those who
believe that they will not find forgiveness for the things that they have done.
I pray also that those who are indeed remorseful will finally find the
forgiving love that Jesus brought unto this world, and will
know complete forgiveness forever.
This book is written for the glory of God.
