THE STRAIGHT GATE
Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Matthew 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Matthew 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Brothers, Jesus is teaching us here about wolves in sheep's clothing. He tells us that in this life there will be false prophets. Jesus is not speaking of the one who will be revealed at the beginning of the seven year tribulation. But, rather he is talking about men who are dressed in sheep's clothing professing to be of God, yet they are ravening wolves who are of the devil. He is telling us here that they are already here among us. It might be a teacher, preacher, neighbor, co-worker, or anyone that you meet as you walk toward that strait gate down that narrow way, which leads to life everlasting.
Jesus tells us that there will be few that find this narrow gate that leads to eternal life. But, there will be many who find the broad gate that leads to destruction and hell. Jesus himself, from his own mouth, tells us here that we must bear good fruit in our life upon this earth. For those who bear bad fruit will not enter in through the narrow gate to life.
He tells us here that the ravening wolves will be known because they bear bad fruit. That we are to seek his wisdom and ask the Holy Spirit to show us those false prophets of today who come to steal and destroy our hope. He it is who brings forth bad fruit will be mowed down and cast into the fire.
In verse twenty Jesus tells us that by their fruits you shall know them.
