YOUR STRENGTH COMES FROM
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
Brothers, Paul speaking to the Church at Corinth. Says that he does not speak to them with wisdom or as a great orator. In fact Paul says that he knows no more than they know. He says to this congregation of people and Christians that he is as they are. That he is nothing special among them. But, he does know Jesus Christ, and that he knows that he was crucified for him.
Do you see here that he is telling the people of Corinth that he is no more than they are except that he has accepted Jesus' saving grace upon his eternal soul and his life here on this earth. He is saying that they too can have what he has.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
Paul says that he fills weak, and is very afraid every time that he speaks to them. But that he is able to speak the truth of God's word not by enticing words or mans wisdom for he does not possess either. But, rather he is able to speak to them by the power of God who's very own Holy Spirit has come to reside inside him, and that it is God's power that gives him his wisdom and words to speak.
Brothers, we are as Paul was in his day. We may be afraid to stand and proclaim God's holy word to our brothers in Christ, and to the lost of this world. But, we are taught here that it is the very power of God who will give us the worlds to say. We may speak boldly as God's power flows from inside each of us as we give witness to Jesus Christ and his saving grace. Praise God!
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Do you see that our faith does not stand on mans great wisdom, but rater our faith stands on the very power of God. Our faith comes from God not from any learned knowledge of man. God's power stands as a testimony to the saving grace of Jesus
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
See here my brothers that the wisdom of God which comes from us by our faith in Jesus Christ, is hidden from the world. The world can not understand God's teaching from his words which live in the bible. We speak a mystery to those who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We are to share the truth of Jesus' saving grace with them always. But, it is the Holy Spirit of God who must bring conviction to the lost as we speak God's truth to them. Just as you and I received that conviction first, and then we accepted Jesus into our lives. So to must all whom we teach and witness too. God changes not. This was his way in Paul's day and it is God's way today and tomorrow.
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
If man could have gained this wisdom with out the power of God then they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Man can not know what God has prepared for those of us who love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
Brothers, it is God himself who reveals these things to us by and through God's own Holy Spirit. It is his Spirit who teaches us all things, and it is his power who works in us and through us to increase his flock. Brothers do not worry about what you shall say to your brothers as you teach them. For it is God's power from inside you who will be speaking through you. Weather you speak to your brothers or unto the lost of this world, it is not you speaking, but rather God speaking through you.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Just as the lost world can not know the things of God. It is God's very own Holy Spirit who both teaches us and it is his Spirit who speaks to the world through us.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
Brothers, we were born into sin. Our spirit was of this world after the fall of Adam. We acted like the world acts. We listened to the men of this world, and it was mans wisdom that we sought after. But, after we accepted God's Holy Spirit in us then we could see what God's power gave us. We know longer desired the things of this world because our spirit now gained it's wisdom from Gods Spirit who came to live inside us. It is his wisdom which has shown us, and continues to teach us as we grow in the knowledge of the power of his word. The very word of God resides in each of us who know him.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Praise God for his truth which lives inside each of us. The unsaved man can not receive the teaching of the Spirit of God for those things seem foolish to them. They did indeed seem foolish to us before we were saved by the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.
We are told here in verse 14 that man can not know the things of God because the things of God are spiritually discerned. Discerned here means that God's Holy Spirit is teaching our spirit the truth of God. God's truth is what we must seek to speak.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Wow! Do you see that we are to spiritually judge all things. Gods power is within us, and His Spirit shows us and teaches us all things. Not just the truth of the bible but all of the things of this world. Man can not teach us after we are saved. It is the Spirit of God who will then teach you ALL things. Just ask for his teaching on any subject and He will teach you.
Brothers, walk in the power of God every day. His power will never fail you. You will always know the truth of his word.
God Bless you my brothers in Christ Jesus;
