2nd TIMOTHY Chapter 1
This letter from the Apostile Paul written to his son Timothy was for the purpose of putting Timothy into remembrance of things that Paul hoped for his son to recall.
These same things are meant for us to recall in this day. It is very easy to forget these things when we allow ourselves to get caught up in our busy daily lives.
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
Here Paul reminds Timothy that he is in receipt of the gift of God inside his own body. That God himself has come to reside inside Timothy just as he has all of us who know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. His Holy Spirit lives inside each of the children of God in this day just as it did in both Paul and Timothy in their day.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
This verse is among one of my favorites in the New Testament.
Brothers, the spirit of fear was not given to us by God. No on the contrary He gave us the spirit of victory over fear, as well as authority. We are to take this God given authority over fear when it try's to come into our lives.
We are plainly told here in the above verse that God has given us the spirit of power. We are to use this power against the evil of this world. God gave us power to overcome all things of this world.
We are also told here that God also gave us the spirit of LOVE. We are to love God, our neighbors, our brothers in Christ Jesus, and also this lost and dying world while there is still time to witness Jesus as Lord and Savior. Brothers, please don't waste this time that we have been given.
We are also told here that God has given us the spirit of a sound mind. Brothers, we are to accept nothing less than a sound mind as we walk in the truth of God's holy word.
I would ask now that each and every one of you put this verse of scripture to memory. Verse 7 above will be a source of strength any time that you fill the world coming into your own life.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Brothers, do not be ashamed of Jesus' testimony given here to us his children. We are his servants here on this earth, and we are to walk in service to him each and every day until his soon appearing. God has given us his power to use in service to him. Take that power now, and use it to serve him.
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Glory be to the Lord our God!!!
Do you see here in verse 9 that Jesus has saved us.
That God has called you and I unto a holy calling. Meaning that we are called to serve God.
We are not to go about doing works according to our own will, but rather we are to serve God according to God's purpose and according to His grace.
These things were given to us in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.
When was this power given us?
God gave us this gift before the foundation of the world!!
We were unable to use these gifts and powers until we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. But, God not only knew you before he created the world, but he also gave you an assignment. Now that you know Jesus you can go about completing your assignment. God did not give you an assignment without also giving you the ability to carry out that assignment. 'Praise God'!!
10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
Just as Paul was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher, we also are one or more of these things. Do you know that when you are witnessing unto the unsaved you are teaching them the truth of the gospel.
Jesus abolished death for you and I. We will never know death. When we take our last breath we will take on our new immortal bodies, and then we shall live forever. Jesus has brought both life and immortality to light through the gospel, and we are now in receipt of that truth.
Brothers, we will never know death if we know Jesus.
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
Brothers, please walk in truth of God's gospel truth each and every day. We are not to be ashamed, for we know in whom we have believed, and we are persuaded by faith that he is able to keep the truth of his Holy Word.
God bless you my brothers in Christ Jesus.
