IT IS CHRIST
WHO GIVES US
Not Philosophy but Christ
2 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Brothers, Paul says here that he knows what a great conflict we have. But, not in Christ Jesus, but rather in what mankind, and the world would tempt us with.
He says that our hearts will be encouraged when we are knit together in love. We will attain the full assurance of understanding. Both God the Father, and Christ Jesus have hidden in them our treasures which is wisdom and knowledge, and which are yours and mine when we keep our eyes focused on them, and not on this world and mans vain philosophy.
4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. 5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
He tells us that man will attempt to deceive you with persuasive words, but we are to stand on our steadfastness of our faith in Christ Jesus.
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
We are to abound in our faith which we have been taught not by men, but rather by God's holy word in the gospel which we know as truth.
8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Indeed men will cheat you through their man made philosophy. If you allow they will deceive you with and through the traditions of men according to the worlds lies, and beliefs, and not according to Christ.
Brothers we are complete in Jesus if we dwell in the fullness of the bodily Godhead, and we are made complete in him. Christ is the head of all principality and power.
Please remember that God said, 'Satin is a liar and that he can not tell the truth.' Also that he came to steal, kill, and to destroy. Satin is the prince of this world, and everything that is of this world is of satin the liar.
This is why that we can not allow ourselves to be deceived by the men of this world. Many well meaning men, yes even men of God have been deceived by satin and his demonic angels.
Stand fast my brothers, and dwell in the truth of God's word. Not in mans word which are filled with man made doctrine and religious traditions.
Not Legalism but Christ
11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
Christ circumcised us when we accepted him as our Lord and Savior. We were buried with Jesus and we were raised with Him through faith by God who raised Jesus from the dead.
The lost world remains dead, but you are not dead. You and I have been made to live forever, and ever through out all eternity with our Lord Jesus.
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
We have been made to be alive not dead. We are alive together with Him having received forgiveness for all our trespasses.
Jesus wiped out the handwriting of requirements, the law which was the ten commandments. These requirements were found by God to be against us, and contrary to us. Jesus has taken it out of the way and has nailed it to the cross.
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Jesus and the Father disarmed the principalities and powers of this world. He defeated satin, and this world's worker's of evil by triumphing over them, and making a public spectacle of them.
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
We are not to be judged by man in any way for doing or not doing the things listed in verse 16 above. Verse 17 above tells us that these things are now only a shadow of things to come, but the substance of these things are now Christ Jesus.
18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
Brothers, we are to let no one cheat us of our reward by delighting in the false humility and worshiping of angels. We are not to be puffed up by the thoughts of our fleshly mind.
We are to hold fast to the Head which is Christ Jesus. We are members of His body, and are to be nourished, and knit together as the children of God. All increase of His Church will be brought about by us members of the body of Christ who work together for that increase of the Church in these last days in which we live.
20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—
Brothers, we died with Christ and we were raised up with Christ. We have victory over the basic principles of this world. So even though we live in this world, we are not to subject ourselves to the regulations of this world.
21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men?
23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh. NKJV
The things listed above in verse 23 have only the appearance of wisdom, but are of no value to us who walk in faith with our Lord Jesus.
God bless you my brothers in Christ Jesus,
